The American Experience
The American Experience is a virtual tour of Washington D.C. featuring locations and collections from the U.S. Capitol, the National Gallery of Art, the Library of Congress and the White House. The user driven experience weaves a tapestry of ideals and struggles that shaped the United States from the Colonial era to the present day.

The capital rotunda was created with high-resolution photogrammetry. The 128 paintings, and artifacts and interiors were re-created with high resolution photographs and 3D modeling creating photo realistic environment on the Samsung GearVR platform.

I designed the experience as a stroll through the various galleries and locations where the student has the freedom to choose her own pace and sequence of collections. Gaze triggers place the viewer comfortably before each artwork while multiple viewpoints are provided within the spaces so the re-creations of the actual architecture can be appreciated.

The app was developed to complement classroom education with additional co-operative classroom games where students outside of the VR experience use clues to themes and texts within historical documents to guide the VR student “Time Traveler” through an historic Revolutionary War barn stashed with hidden artworks.
